Renanah Miles Joyce is a Grand Strategy, Security, and Statecraft postdoctoral fellow at MIT’s Security Studies Program and the Harvard Kennedy School’s International Security Program. Her current research explores the ways that great powers shape security and achieve influence in the developing world. Her book project, Exporting Might and Right, examines the effectiveness of security assistance as a great power tool to shape military norms and behavior in smaller states.

Renanah received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University in 2020. She was previously a predoctoral fellow in the Institute for Security and Conflict Studies at George Washington University. Her work has been published in the Journal of Conflict Resolution, Political Science Quarterly, and policy outlets including The National Interest, Lawfare, Defense One, and PRISM. Before graduate school, she worked for the U.S. Department of Defense as a program analyst.
