To honor Owen’s memory and scholarly contributions, SSP is establishing an award that will bear his name. The Owen Cote, Jr. Award will be given annually to recognize the best scholarly article in the field of security studies published in the previous calendar year. The award will include a cash prize and be presented to the author at SSP’s annual spring dinner.
Owen was not only a leading scholar in the field, but through his decades of service as editor of International Security, he also nurtured the publication of path-breaking and foundational scholarship by others. Through this award, we hope to celebrate Owen’s commitment to excellence in the study of international security and to advance the scholarly careers of the recipients.
To endow this award at MIT, we are seeking contributions from those who knew and admired Owen. Your support will help us not only fund the award itself but also ensure it will be sustained into the future.
If you would like to contribute, donations can be made here. No matter the size, every gift will help us celebrate Owen’s memory. All donations are tax-deductible. For those of you that make annual charitable giving plans, gifts can be made at any time in the years to come.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to honor someone who meant so much to so many of us. Please feel free to share this message with others who may wish to participate.
