Colonel George Kloppenburg is the US Army 2023-2024 Fellow at MIT’s Security Studies Program and Lincoln Laboratory. Prior to his arrival at MIT, he was assigned as the G-2/3/5/7, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, in the Mission and Installation Contracting Command, Ft. Sam Houston, TX.  Previous non-command combat arms assignments include two deployments to Iraq for 20 months in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and two deployments to Afghanistan for 19 months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

His command assignments include: 17 months as Commander, A Company, 1-22 Infantry Battalion, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, CO where he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; 36 months as Garrison Commander/DCMA Director, Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (JSMC) Lima Army Tank Plant in Lima, OH. 

He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Terry School of Business at the University of Georgia.

Colonel Kloppenburg is married to the former Ms. Molly Harrington of Annapolis, Maryland. They have two children, Jack (3) and Patrick (9-mo).
