Summary

Prof. Greitens will discuss the domestic security situation and politics of the People’s Republic of China, and how internal developments affect the PRC’s grand strategy and foreign policy. 

Bio
Sheena Chestnut Greitens is Associate Professor at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.  She directs UT's Asia Policy Program, a joint initiative of the Strauss Center for International Security & Law and the Clements Center for National Security.  In 2022, she is also concurrently a Jeane Kirkpatrick Visiting Fellow at the American  Enterprise Institute (AEI).  Her research focuses on national security, East Asia (especially China and North Korea), and authoritarian politics and foreign policy.  Her first book, Dictators and Their Secret Police (Cambridge University Press, 2016), won several academic awards, and she recently completed a book on how authoritarianism shapes diaspora politics, focused on North Korea.  She is presently working on a book project about how internal security shapes Chinese grand strategy, focused on Xi Jinping's comprehensive national security concept.
