This week, faculty, students and more gathered virtually just past noon to hear to David Smith (South Asia Program Distinguished Fellow at the Stimson Center and Sandia National Laboratories consultant) discuss “Is India a Strategic Asset for the U.S. in the Indo-Pacific Region or a Strategic Millstone Around the Neck?” Smith spoke about India’s military’s training and education, including what it perceives as threats, its attitude on security issues and the differing organizational and socio-cultural dynamics it grapples with. His talk was based off his book published late last year entitled, “The Wellington Experience: A Study of Attitudes and Values Within the Indian Army.” The talk was streamed live on MIT SSP’s YouTube channel, and a great Q&A with the audience followed.

The next Wednesday Seminar (to be held on 3/31), features Kristin Ven Bruusgaard, Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Oslo. Ven Bruusgaard will present: “Explaining change in Russian nuclear strategy.”
