Brittany Logan
Jakana Thomas

On Wednesday, April 7, 2021, Jakana Thomas (Associate Professor of Political Science at Michigan State University) discussed “Sisters Are Doing it for Themselves: How Female Combatants Gender Peace Agreements in Civil Wars.”

This week, faculty, students and more gathered virtually just past noon to hear to Jakana Thomas (Associate Professor of Political Science at Michigan State University) discuss “Sisters Are Doing it for Themselves: How Female Combatants Gender Peace Agreements in Civil Wars.” Thomas spoke about the impact women, specifically female rebels, have on peace processes and effecting change in civil war peace agreements. The talk was streamed live on MIT SSP’s YouTube channel, and a fantastic Q&A with the audience followed.

The next Wednesday Seminar (to be held on 4/14), features Rana Mitter, Professor of the History and Politics of Modern China, and a Fellow of St Cross College at the University of Oxford. Mitter will present: “How World War II Is Shaping a New Nationalism.”
