William James, SSP's 2018-2019 Grand Strategy, Security and Statecraft Fellow, was awarded a Trench Gascoigne Essay Prize (2nd place) for his entry, 'Salvaging Grand Strategy'. He was presented with the award at the Royal United Services Institute in London by the UK Chief of Defence Staff and former British Foreign Secretary Lord Hague. The Trench Gascoigne Essay Prize, which dates back to 1874, is awarded for original writing on contemporary issues of national and international defence and security.
