Lieutenant Colonel Sean Coakley is an Army War College Fellow with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Security Studies Program. He was commissioned as an Infantry Officer and Distinguished Military Graduate from Norwich University at Northfield, Vermont in 1999. His command and general staff assignments include multiple U.S. and overseas tours and experience in Japan, Korea, India, Kenya, three deployments to Iraq between 2006 and 2009, and two deployments to Afghanistan between 2007 and 2017. Lieutenant Colonel Coakley most recently served as the Chief of Plans and Future Operations for the 1st Cavalry Division, preparing for contingency deployments around the world. He commanded maneuver units from the platoon through special operations team level. He also served on several general and joint staffs as Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence and Director of Intelligence. Lieutenant Colonel Coakley earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice at Norwich University and a Masters of Military Art and Science in both Homeland Security and Military Space Applications from the Command and General Staff College.
