Commander Wenker is the 2018-2019 Navy Federal Executive Fellow at MIT Security Studies Program. He earned a Bachelor of Science in History from the United States Naval Academy, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. Designated as Naval Flight Officer (NFO) in the E-2C Hawkeye, his operational assignments include tours with the VAW-117 ‘Wallbangers’, VAW-113 ‘Black Eagles’, and as Commanding Officer of the VAW-116 ‘Sun Kings.’ During those tours, he completed numerous deployments aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) and USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71), flying combat missions in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, INHERENT RESOLVE, and humanitarian missions in support of Operation TOMODACHI. His shore assignments include tours with VAW-120 as an Instructor NFO, as the Flag Aide to Commander, U.S. SIXTH Fleet, and as the J5 Lead Planner for Homeland Defense at U.S. NORTHERN Command. Throughout his career, Commander Wenker has accumulated more than 2,200 flight hours, 400 carrier landings, and 80 combat sorties.
