Professor of Political Science, Royal Military College of Canada (RMCC)

Dr. Joel Sokolsky is a Professor of Political Science at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC). From 2008 to 2013 he was Principal of RMC. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Sokolsky was Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Head of the Department of Political Science. He holds a PhD in Political Science from Harvard University and an MA in International Affairs from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Dr. Sokolsky is a Fellow at the Queen’s University Centre for International and Defence Policy and holds an appointment with the Queen’s Department of Political Studies. He is a Research Affiliate at the Strategic Studies Program of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Senior Analyst with  His most recent publications include (Co-Editor) North American Strategic Defense in the 21st Century: Security and Sovereignty in an Uncertain World, "Paying It Forward: Canada’s renewed commitment to NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence,” and “The Power and the Burden (Sharing): The United States and the Future of NATO.”
