Chikako Ueki

Chikako Kawakatsu Ueki was a Visiting Scholar at SSP for the Fall 2012 and is currently a research affiliate. Chikako is an SSP alumna and Ph.D. in Political Science. She is a Professor of International Relations at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies (GSAPS) at Waseda University in Tokyo. Chikako specializes in International Relations and Security of East Asia focusing on U.S.-Japan-China relations. Before teaching at Waseda, she taught and researched at the National Institute for Defense Studies, Ministry of Defense, and was a Political Correspondent for Asahi. She was a member of the Prime Minister's Council on Security and Defense Capabilities in 2009 and helped put together the current Japanese National Defense Program Guidelines. She is writing a book on the U.S. and Japanese threat perceptions of China.
