What began as an initiative by two SSP students to highlight and amplify the expertise of women in security studies has grown into a successful annual conference.

This year’s Future Strategy Forum Conference was held virtually over three days in early May. With a theme of “The Future of National Security and Technology,” the conference welcomed Anne Neuberger (Deputy National Security Advisor for Cyber & Emerging Tech in the Biden Administration) and Rose Gottemoeller (Payne Distinguished Lecturer at the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford University and former Deputy Secretary General of NATO) as keynote speakers, and featured an incredible lineup of security studies experts. The conference finished with an international crisis war game led by Dr. Jacquelyn Schneider of the Hoover Institution.

The Future Strategy Forum (“FSF”) was founded by two of SSP’s Class of 2021 graduates—Sara Plana and Rachel Tecott—who wanted to tackle the challenges and institutional barriers to success women faced while pursuing careers in security studies. FSF is sponsored by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and receives support from the Bridging the Gap Project and SSP.
