SSP Wednesday Seminar September 16 with Fred Kaplan
Fred Kaplan

On September 16, 2020, Fred Kaplan, National Security Columnist, Slate, presented a virtual talk on "The Bomb: Presidents, Generals, and the Secret History of Nuclear War"

Our Wednesday Seminars Series returned virtually this week and we kicked off the fall semester with a bang! Our inaugural speaker was the Pulitzer Prizes-winning journalist, national security columnist for Slate and MIT SSP alum, Fred Kaplan. Kaplan discussed his book, The Bomb: Presidents, Generals, and the Secret History of Nuclear War, and the decisions, behind-the-scenes stories, and documents that make up America’s nuclear weapons history. A great Q&A with the audience followed.

The talk was streamed live on MIT SSP’s new YouTube channel. Be sure to bookmark our page and keep an eye out as we build out the channel.

The next Wednesday Seminar (to be held on 9/23), features Lorenz Lüthi, Assistant Professor at McGill University, Montréal, and a leading Cold War historian. Lüthi will present: “Cold Wars: Asia, the Middle East, Europe.”
