SSP Wednesday Seminar February 12th with Yuri Zukov
Yuri Zhukov

SSP's second Wednesday Seminar of the Spring 2020 semester took place February 12th with a presentation by Yuri Zhukov, Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His topic: "Fighting for Tyranny: How State Repression Shapes Military Performance."

Our latest Wednesday Seminar went behind the battle lines. Students, faculty and staff gathered at noon to listen to Yuri Zhukov (Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor) discuss the impact of repression by authoritarian regimes on soldiers on the battlefield. Zhukov co-authored the work, “Fighting for Tyranny: How State Repression Shapes Military Performance,” with Arturas Rozenas and Roya Talibova, which served as the basis of his presentation. A great Q&A with the audience followed.

The next Wednesday Seminar (to be held on 2/26), features Associate Professor of Political Science and International Studies at Boston College, Jennifer Erickson. Erickson will present: “New Technologies and Norms of War: Submarines and Poison Gas in World War I.”
