The SSP Wednesday Seminars returned on April 1, on Zoom, with Dr. Annette Idler giving a talk on “Borderland Battles: Violence, Crime, and Governance at the Edges of Colombia's War.”

Our Wednesday Seminar series returned virtually this week! Faculty, students and staff e-gathered at noon to listen to Dr. Annette Idler (Visiting Scholar at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Harvard University and Director of Studies, Changing Character of War Programme at Pembroke College) discuss “Borderland Battles: Violence, Crime, and Governance at the Edges of Colombia's War.” Idler spoke about the ways dynamic interactions between violent non-state actors and groups created a complex security environment that challenged traditional notions of governance and order. A great Q&A with the audience followed.

The next Wednesday Seminar (to be held on 4/15 by webinar), features Charles Glaser, Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at George Washington University, and Founding Director of the Elliott School's Institute for Security and Conflict Studies. Glaser will present: “National Security Challenges Posed by China's Rise.”
